Lucy Gibson BAAT / HCPC
Art Psychotherapist - Addiction Therapist
Lucy is an MA Art Psychotherapist, based in
London and South East England.
Having graduated from the prestigious
Goldsmiths University, London, she has now
been registered for several years to practice with
the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT)
and the Health and Care Professions Council
(HCPC).
Lucy has extensive experience of working with
adults and children in various clinical settings
including the NHS, private and voluntary sectors.
She is extremely aware of, and sensitive to,
discretion and confidentiality and has worked
with a number of high-profile clients in the arts
and media world. She works both with individuals
on a one-to-one basis and with groups and
families, offering a support network around the
client. She practices a person-centred approach,
supported by her psychoanalytic / psychodynamic
training. Her professional interest focuses on
Object Relations and Attachment Theory,
underpinned by the theories of Bion, Klein, Laing
and Winnicott.
Lucy brings a calm, boundaried approach and an
artistic outlook to the therapeutic space, helping
people gain empowerment and confidence
through self-expression. She firmly believes the
art process in Art Psychotherapy offers another
symbolic language where an individual can
express the feelings and thoughts of their inner
world in a contained way. This can enable the
process of change, self-reflection and recovery.
‘I find Ms. Gibson to be a highly competent Art
Psychotherapist with excellent clinical and
interpersonal skills. She is honest, reliable and able to
meet complex, often pressurised, situations with
equanimity, thoughtfulness and flexibility.’
Pamela Mellior MA HCPC BAAT
‘Lucy was an asset to the Service and developed a full
programme of clinical appointments in several settings
within NELFT. She was able to stamp her own identity
on an open session group and initiated improvments in
how the session was delivered. Her ability to
communicate with professionals from other disciplines
and to accurately convey progress within art therapy
has been favourably noted by colleagues. I have been
very impressed by her throughness and reliability,
essential qualities in a health professional.’
Will Crane, Lead Arts Therapist, North East
London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT)
‘Lucy is a trusting, calm, compassionate and caring
person. Her written and verbal communication skills
are excellent.’
