What is Art Therapy? Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy which offers the additional use of art materials. The art process can help express emotions to aid deeper understanding. It can act as a bridge in the relationship between the client and the art therapist allowing for indirect expression of feelings and aiding communication. Art Therapy can help you to make positive personal changes in a safe, confidential and facilitating environment. You do not have to be an artist to undertake art therapy; the art therapist is not looking for artistic ability or aesthetic quality in the pieces made. It is an arena to use and play with the materials and discuss together what the work might mean for the client, with the aim of helping to communicate what is happening in their inner world.
